Support Groups

Lake Pointe Counseling Center Brochure For Spring 2010

Support groups are small groups of people interested in the support of others who are facing similar challenges. The groups are structured around the topic, led by trained facilitators, and are a great resource for building relationships while growing through life’s challenges.

Making Peace With Your Past
Begins Thursday, February 4 • 7 pm • Rm. W206
Understanding how self-concept, view of God, and relationships with others are influenced by the past and primary role models.

Boundaries
Begins Thursday, February 4 • 7 pm • Rm. W208
Discovering our God-given limits and responsibilities, which enable freedom in relationships and increased personal control.

Experiencing God
Begins Thursday, February 4 • 7 pm • Rm. W210
A study to get to know God in a more personal way and doing the will of God in your life.

Grief Support (Ongoing)
Meets every Thursday • 7 pm • Rm. A158
A supportive group for those who have lost a loved one. Open each week to new members.

Couples Communication/Marriage Course
Begins Thursday, February 4 • 7 pm • Rm. W204
This 12 week course is designed to help couples learn practical tools of communication and to build a strong and healthy relationship.

Divorce Care
Begins Thursday, February 4 • 7 pm • Rm. W214
A supportive group for those experiencing the pain of separation and in the process of divorce.

Divorce Recovery
Begins Thursday, February 4 • 7 pm • Rm. W218
A recovery process for those rebuilding their lives after divorce.

Anger Management Group
Six hour anger management group for adults which is professional led begins Monday, April 5th at 7 p.m. in A110. This is a fee based group.

Eating Disorder Group
This 24-week group will walk through a Christ–centered 12 step process for conquering eating disorders. This program is for adults who have dealt with the debilitating disorders of anorexia, bulimia or compulsive overeating. This group is counselor led, fee based. First Place 4 Health
Rockwall, Firewheel, and Town East Campuses
This 12-week program emphasizes weight loss and living a balanced, Christ-centered life. Orientation meetings are required to participate and will be held at the Rockwall Campus on the following dates at the Rockwall Campus:

Cancer Support Group
Meets every Sunday • 5 pm • Rm. A145
For those diagnosed with cancer to receive encouragement, education, resources, and periodic special speakers.

Divorce recovery for children ages 8-10.

Christian men mentoring teens ages 11-17 in a fun-filled and meaningful relationship.

Recovery for Life
Thursdays • 7 pm • Rm. W300 • West Wing Building
Using the Christ-Centered 12-Step program, Recovery for Life addresses life-controlling issues such as substance abuse, codependency, dysfunctional relationships and sexual purity.

Groups Include:

Substance Abuse Group
For those struggling with life-controlling addictions such as drugs, alcohol, prescription medication, tobacco, etc.
Codependent/Troubled Relationships Group
For those struggling with recurring emotional, relational, and boundary issues.
Faithful and True
For men involved with pornography, affairs, and/or sexual addiction.

AL-ANON (RW Campus)
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday • 12 noon • Rm. A145
Traditional 12-Step program "open group" for family and friends of alcoholics.

Personal healing for those wounded by someone through affairs, pornography, or sexual addiction.

Post Abortion Recovery

Professional Christian Counseling
When facing life's deeper and more difficult issues, the Bible recommends we seek wise counsel. Lake Pointe Church meets this need by providing on-site, Christ-centered professional counseling. Both male and female counselors are available. Fees are low compared to comparable services in our community.

Stephen Ministry
One-on-one care giving ministry. Trained, caring believers reach out through listening, prayer, and support to those going through a tough time.

Marriages That Last
Next Seminar: April 24
Presented two times a year, this three and a half hour seminar is for married and pre-married couples.
Presenters include:
